How to be Healthier Part 4: Self Care Ideas That Will Make You Look and Feel Good

When you lead a busy life, it’s difficult to find the time to take care of your health and wellbeing. Between going to work, spending time with family and running a home, there’s always something that requires your attention, which means that you often end up neglecting yourself. However, your health and wellbeing are just as important as the health and wellbeing of your loved ones. You deserve to be taken care of too. That said, read on for 5 self-care ideas that will help you to look and feel your best — and are ultimately worth squeezing into your hectic schedule. (Trust us!)

1.   Move for 30 Minutes a Day

Firstly, being active for at least 30 minutes a day will be beneficial for your body, mind and soul. And when you feel revitalised, you look revitalised. Fact. Whether this is a short stroll in the park or a high-intensity YouTube workout, any type of daily exercise can lead to improved physical and mental health. It can also significantly boost your fitness levels, energy and mood. Therefore, it really is a no-brainer.

2.   Have a Pamper Night

If you’re feeling particularly stressed or burned out, have a pamper night where you do the following:
  • Wash your hair
  • Groom yourself
  • Wear comfy clothes
  • Light candles
  • Put on soothing music
  • Give yourself a manicure
  • Give yourself a pedicure
  • Give yourself to a DIY facial
The idea is to create an at-home spa at least once a week so you can treat yourself, have some “me” time and consequently enter a state of deep relaxation.

3. Catch Up on Some Zzzs

Sure, it sounds simple, but you’d be amazed by the number of people that fail to get enough sleep. In fact, according to experts, healthy adults should average seven to nine hours of shut-eye each night. If you’re currently under-achieving, you need to catch up. Why? Well, your body naturally repairs itself and rids itself of toxins during sleeping hours. More sleep means that you wake up feeling and looking re-energised, instead of grumpy and tired.

4. Keep Hydrated

In addition to eating superfoods for energy, you should also drink plenty of water every day. This keeps your mind and body feeling fresh at all times. It also does wonders for your skin in terms of flushing out toxins, clearing blemishes and improving your overall complexion. Win-win.

5. Have a Digital Detox

Lastly, one of the best things you can do for your everyday health is to have a technology detox. How come, you ask? Well, eye strain is a common problem that results from the blue light emitted from digital devices. Plus, being on your phone or computer just before you go to bed can suppress the secretion of melatonin and inevitably interfere with your body’s natural circadian rhythm. To combat this, give yourself a regular break from technology (especially at night!) so you can minimise the likelihood of eye strain and maximise your sleeping hours.

Utilising Self Care Ideas to Improve Your Mood

There are many different self-care ideas you can try to see which ones are the most effective for you. The bottom line is to always look after number one. After all, the relationship you have with yourself lasts a lifetime. Therefore, some may argue that it’s more important than any other.     Look out for the next blog post in the “how to be healthier” series, “Part 5: Worthwhile Supplements to Take Daily,” coming very soon!
